You share in a mission to strengthen the community every single day!
A PLACE AND A PURPOSE
You are part of so much more than a place to workout. We want you to know us for the people we serve, the cause we drive, the belonging we create, and the change we make right in your local community! From affordable housing and fighting food insecurity to educating and nurturing the next generation of leaders and championing mental wellness support, your Y is creating lasting change for tomorrow.
Your Membership Is Meaningful
While you work on strengthening your physical and mental wellness at your local Y, we are strengthening community by championing affordable housing, fighting food insecurity, developing mental wellness opportunities, educating and nurturing tomorrow’s leaders, providing life saving swim lessons and ensuring no one is turned away due to an inability to pay.
Our Y provides a home for more than 500 adults, children and families in our YMCA Affordable Housing accross the North Shore. We have affordable housing in Beverly, Gloucester, Haverhill and Ipswich. We are excited to announce our newest affordable housing project, the John J. Meany Senior Affordable Housing, coming soon in downtown Gloucester!
Your Y is supporting access to healthy foods. The Greenspace in Salem provides fresh produce to local families and in Ipswich, our Neighbors to Tables initiative provides families with grocery store gift cards. The Ipswich Y partners with Open Door to deliver thousands of meals and in Cape Ann, more than 16,000 summer meals were served to children. Most recently our Y in Haverhill has started a freight farm to grow and provide fresh produce to the community!
Our YMCA has always been committed to providing opportunities that support mental wellness. Through our new initiative ONEDOOR, our YMCA has hired an Executive Director of Mental Wellness who will be working to ensure our Y is a place where all individuals can improve their mental wellness and quality of life by strengthening their sense of control and belonging, while improving their ability to cope with difficulty.
Our Ys provide lifesaving swim and safety around water skills to approximately 2,000 children in our local communities each year. Through our flexible pricing program we ensure everyone has access to these vital swim lessons at a rate that is affordable to their family. Through our Water Wise program, children on the autism spectrum learn to swim. This unique program combines the expertise of Northeast Arc and our YMCA swim lesson program. For more information about Water Wise, contact Jerry Justice justicej@northshoreymca.org.
We are the largest provider of Early Education in our service area. Children learn and thrive through early education, school age programs and teen leadership development. Our programs offer their own financial assistance ensuring every child has access to quality education. In the summer months we work with our schools and city officials to provide learning loss prevention programs at no cost to families ensuring children who need support the most don’t fall behind academically during the summer school break.
One of the biggest challenges for our communities today is the rapidly increasing cost of living. We believe that every family & individual deserves the opportunity to enjoy their local YMCA and connect with their community. This is why we offer financial assistance through flexible income-based pricing. Our goal is to make Y programs as affordable as possible, while still supporting our staff and equipping and maintaining our facilities. In 2022, our Y provided more than $4.5 million in financial assistance.
