OUR IMPACT & SUPPORTERS

Every day the Y gives our communities the support it needs to learn, grow and thrive.

REDUCING STIGMA & BUILDING AWARENESS AROUND MENTAL WELLNESS

At the Y , we promote the use of respectful, person-centered and clearly defined language
around mental wellness, mental health, and mental illness. Our goal is to integrate a mental wellness perspective into all the Y programs while providing ongoing education and training opportunities for our staff to elevate the importance of mental wellness for all.

Ranjeev Benjamin, LICSW, Executive Director of Mental Wellness

Ranjeev, a former chemical engineer, has more than 15 years of experience in community mental health and wellness as a psychotherapist and clinical supervisor. Before joining the Y, he was the Program Director at the Riverside Community Care, Behavioral Health Outpatient Center in Somerville. Ranjeev is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with a master’s degree from Boston University.

Partnering with the Experts

We have established a partnership with McLean Hospital’s School Consultation Service. In preparation for summer camp, they conducted a thorough needs assessment with our camp leaders and inclusion specialists. Using the data gathered they trained nearly 500 staff in-person and by video to better support the mental health of our campers and staff themselves. To ensure the training was integrated into the summer camp experience, the McLean team met with camp teams every week.

Helping kids get back to being kids

Cartwheel is a trusted mental health partner to schools that helps kids and families get back on their feet when they’re struggling. Cartwheel typically partners with school systems directly to provide virtual, evidence-based mental health care to students, family support, and psychiatric medication services. For the first time, Cartwheel is partnering with a community organization, our Y, to provide mental health services to even more children in our school districts with no waitlists.
